The Southern Mallee area is home to the beautiful Ngarkat Conservation Park and Karte Conservation Park, as well as many beautiful landscapes and areas to enjoy local flora, fauna and outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and 4-wheel driving.
Our towns also have many beautiful parks and camping areas where you can enjoy the beauty of nature close to local amenities.
Ngarkat Conservation Park
Ngarkat conservation park is 271,000 hectares of protected Mallee bush. It is the largest patch of remnant native vegetation situated in settled agricultural South Australia.

In Ngarkat Conservation Park, you can stay at one of 11 different campgrounds, or stay in nearby Southern Mallee towns. Featuring 10 beautiful walking trails, there is plenty to see and enjoy.
You can enter Ngarkat Conservation Park from Lameroo via Baan Hill Road or from Pinnaroo via Ngarkat Highway, Rosy Pine Road or Border Road.
All tracks in Ngarkat Conservation Park are 4WD only

* The one way section of the Border Track within Ngarkat Conservation Park is closed from 1 November to 31 March each year

Karte Conservation Park
Karte Conservation Park is located only 26km north of Pinnaroo. Featuring a beautiful 1.5km walking trail through mallee bush and sand dunes. Boasting more than 40 species of birds , a large part of the Karte Conservation Park is important habitat for the endanged Malleefowl. Stay awhile at the Karte Campground with picnic tables, fire pits and toilets.

Our conservation parks are beautiful but, you don't have to venture far to still be able to enjoy the peace and tranquility of Mallee landscapes. Our towns have lots of natural spaces for bird watching, walking and camping while still being closer to town and amenities.
